A little over two hours. Take the N1 through the Huguenot Tunnel and the Hex River Valley, then the R318 towards Montagu. Our gate is at the top of Burgers Pass, 29 km before Montagu. It works as a long day trip, but most people who come from overseas stay a night or two.
Wednesdays and Saturdays, in the morning. On busy days there’s an afternoon trip too. It takes about two and a half hours there and back.
R300 for adults, R250 for teens and students, R170 for kids aged 3 to 12. Under 3 is free. The potjie costs the same again.
Yes, and most people do. The potjie is served on the same Wednesdays and Saturdays, before or after the trip.
Pot food. Meat and vegetables are layered into a round cast iron pot on three legs and cooked slowly over coals for hours, without stirring. Every farm family has its own way of doing it. Ours is served as a buffet.
Yes. You ride in a trailer behind the tractor, so there’s no walking. The road is steep and bumpy in places, so tell us about anyone with a sore back or who struggles to climb onto a trailer.
It’s steep, and in places the road runs close to the edge. Pierre has driven it more times than anyone can count and takes it slowly. If heights bother you, sit on the mountain side of the trailer.
Yes. The hut is at 1 491 m. The top of Table Mountain is about 1 085 m, so you’re roughly 400 m higher, and the peak behind the hut goes up to 1 698 m.
A jersey and a windbreaker, even in summer. It can be warm at the farm and cold and windy at 1 491 m. Sunscreen, a hat and a camera too.
If rain, snow or wind makes the road unsafe, we cancel and refund you in full. We’ll let you know as early as we can.
There are four self catering cottages for two to eight people, and Populierbos, a campsite by the river. Book a stay and the tractor together in one request.

Montagu, 29 km away, was voted Best Dorpie in the Cape for 2026. It has hot springs, rock climbing, good places to eat and Route 62. The drive over Burgers Pass is worth it on its own, and in spring the Koo Valley turns white and pink with blossom.
The tractor trip is R300 for adults, and the potjie the same again. Spring weekends and school holidays fill up first.
