Tractor trip and potjie

• Half to book

  A 50% deposit holds your seats. The rest is due 30 days before your visit.

• Booking late

  Inside 30 days we ask for the full amount when you book.

• If you cancel

  21 days or more before: no charge. 7 to 20 days: we keep half. Under 7 days, or a no show: we keep it all.

• We leave on time

  The tractor won’t wait, and late arrivals count as a no show. Burgers Pass is slow, so leave early.

• Bad weather

  If we cancel because of rain, snow or the road, you get every cent back.

• October

  Maintenance month for the road and the tractors. Some dates close, so check with us.

A booking is confirmed only when we’ve emailed you a confirmation and received the deposit. The deposit is 50% of the total, and the balance is due 30 days before your visit. If you book within 30 days of the date, the full amount is due when you book.

If you cancel 21 days or more before your visit, we refund what you’ve paid. If you cancel between 7 and 20 days before, we keep 50% of the booking value. If you cancel less than 7 days before, or don’t arrive, we keep the full amount.

The tractor leaves at the time on your confirmation. Guests who arrive after it has left are treated as a no show and aren’t refunded or credited. We may cancel or shorten a trip for weather, the state of the road or safety. If we cancel, we refund you in full.

October is maintenance month for the mountain road and the tractors, and some dates may not run.

Cottages and camping

• Half to book

  A 50% deposit secures the cottage. The rest is due 30 days before you arrive.

• Holidays paid in full

  Easter, long weekends, mid December to mid January and the July school holidays.

• If you cancel

  The deposit isn’t refundable. If we let the cottage to someone else, you usually get 90% back.

• Nights

  One night midweek is R100 extra. Weekends are Friday and Saturday together.

Over Easter, long weekends, 15 December to 15 January and the Western Cape July school holidays, the full amount is due when you book. The rest of the year a 50% deposit secures the booking and the balance is due 30 days before arrival.

Deposits and payments are forfeited if you cancel. If we manage to let the cottage to someone else for the same dates, we’ll usually refund 90% of what you paid. A single midweek night carries a R100 surcharge, and weekend bookings are for Friday and Saturday night together.

Please leave the cottage as you found it. Damage or missing items may be charged for.

Prices and payment

Prices on this site are in South African rand and include VAT where it applies. The tractor trip and the potjie are each priced per person: adults R300, teens and students R250, kids R170, under 3 free. We may change prices, but the price on your confirmation is the price you pay.

Estimates on the booking page are a guide only. The amount on our emailed confirmation is the one that counts. We never take card details through this website.

On the farm and the mountain

Protea Farm is a working farm and the tractor trip goes up a steep mountain road. Please follow the driver’s instructions, stay seated while the tractor is moving and keep an eye on children at all times. Tell us when you book about anyone who is pregnant, has a back or heart condition or has trouble climbing onto a trailer.

You take part at your own risk, as far as the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act.

Alcohol at the hut is served only to guests aged 18 and older.

We try to keep everything on it correct, but prices, times and availability can change, so we confirm the details by email. The words, photos and maps on this site belong to Protea Farm or the people credited below. Please ask before you use them.
